「Voices／声」No.1

「Voices／声」is a New Project of JISPC that began 1st August. 

And today we would like to introduce the first article!

「Voices／声」は８月１日に始まった弊団体の新しい企画です。

今日は、記念すべき初の記事を皆さんにご紹介したいと思います！

Memory／記憶

2 days ago, a tragedy happened in Beirut, Lebanon.

2日前、レバノンのベイルートである悲劇が起きた。

I know this because of my friend from the Middle East.

私は中東に暮らす友人からこれを知った。

I woke up and saw a text and video.

朝起きて、彼から送られてきたテキストとビデオを見た。

I was shocked and lost my word.

ショックで言葉を失った。

Today(6 Aug.) I saw the building in a Japanese newspaper.

今日(8月6日)、私は日本の新聞にあの爆破した建物を見た。

"Beirut Exploded" it said.

「ベイルート爆発」の見出し。

Is it an accident? Or is it an attack?

これは事故だったのか？それとも攻撃だったのか？

I don't know.

わからない。

It doesn't clearly mention that.

記事にはそのことが書かれていなかった。

In the different page of the same newspaper says

"No More Atomic Bomb, Wish For The World"

別のページに目をやると「ノーモア原爆、世界に願いを」の文字が。

Something drop from sky.

何かが空から落ちてくる。

Flash. Explosion.

閃光。爆発。

I saw a cloud that looks like a mushroom.

私はあの雲を見た。キノコのような形をしたあの雲を。

Nothing left behind.

後には何も残らない。

Everything was flamed and melted down down down...

すべてが燃えて、溶けて、そして消えていく。

It was 75 years ago today. 

それは75年前の今日のことだった。

Sometimes memory comes from inside of us although we don't actually experience it.

時に記憶は私達の内から湧いてくる。実際にそれを経験したわけでもないのに。

Collective memory.

集合的記憶。

It's a memory that is shared by a group of people.

それはある人々の間に共有された記憶だ。

Is it fiction? Is it an illusion?

それはフィクションか？それは幻想か？

Yes or No.

答えは「イエス」であり、「ノー」である。

We see it feel it and experience it as if we were there at that moment.

私たちはそれを見て、感じて、経験する。まるで自分がその瞬間、その場にいるかのように。

And we are never free from it.

そして、私たちは決してそれから逃れることができない。

Try to forget it but suddenly it comes back.

忘れようとしても、ある日突然、それは蘇る。

Sometimes discourses on the Media evoke memory.

時にメディアの言説が記憶を掻き立てる。

Tighten the feeling of togetherness.

私たちの一体感を高める。

Either in a good way or a bad way.

良い意味でも、悪い意味でも。

"We Are The Victim"

「私たちは被害者だ」

Other times it raises questions to us.

時にそれは、私たちに問いを投げかけることもある。

To every one of us.

私たち一人ひとりに。

What is peace?

平和とは何か？

Why people are fighting?

なぜ人は争うのか？

Nobody knows the answer.

誰も答えは知らない。

I think there is more than one answer.

答えは複数あるようにも思われる。

However, if we don't take over the memory, if we forget the tragedy, these questions are simply ignored.

しかし、もし私たちが記憶を継承しなかったら、もし私たちがあの悲劇を忘れてしまったら、これらの問いは単に無視されてしまうだろう。

We can't stick to the past.

私たちは過去に固執することはできない。

But we can't bury it deep under the ground.

しかし、同様にそれを地中深くに埋めてしまうこともできないのだ。

What happened in Beirut, accidental or not, should be kept in our mind.

ベイルートで起きた出来事は、偶然であろうとなかろうと、私たちの記憶に留めておくべきことだ。
